Twitter to bring ?Death to America?! Twitter as a Terrorist tool?

Gizmodo and the Danger Room, reported today that government agencies are worried of the potential of terrorist organizations to use sites like twitter to coordinate terror strikes.

Twitter would of course make an easy anonymous platform for members of Hezbollah or Al Quaida to coordinate some sort of suicide bombing.

Each person would just need a phone, laptop, or other mobile device with access to a mobile or wifi network.

Army intelligence has come up with a few scenarios that a terrorist organization could utilize social network sites like twitter, as well as other cellphone features and programs.

Some of the topics brought up in the report include: Using mobile phone camera's to monitor 'the enemy'; Using the gps of some mobile phones for markmanship, border crossings, etc...; The installation of voice modification software to disguise the voice of would be terrorists.

The presentation also looking into a discussion on how militants may pair mobile applications with Twitter to expand their resources.

Similar to the way Twitter was used as a countersurveillance tool by activists during the Republican National Convention, the activists tweeted about the movement of Local Law Enforcement in real-time.

The presentation lays out three major scenarios.

Scenario 1: Terrorists send messages back and forth, regarding how, where, and number of troops that are moving around, in order to conduct an ambush.

Scenario 2: Terrorists uses mobile phone to signal remote explosive devices, or to coordinate remote detonation by a third party based on near real-time movement and imagery.

Scenario 3: Cyber terrorists find a U.S. soldiers Twitter account, he gains information from the soldier, and uses the information for identity theft, hacking, and possible physical attacks. This scenario could play out any and all major social networks...

How To Put Customer Service Tips To Work For You

Because we?re all buyers, we all know how important customer service is?both as buyers and business people. If you want your own business to give people good experiences, you need to give people the very best customer service that you can. What you need to figure out is how to find the willingness to stick with it. It?s kind of strange that the owners of more businesses don?t offer this as well?perhaps they don?t care as much? You are going to lose a lot of business if you do not have the proper customer service skills. Each of the following tips can help you offer truly superior customer service to the people who want to buy from you.

If you?re trying to see through satellitedirectreviewsx.net really stop for a minute! Do not be too hard on your self. Guideline number 1 is to not push yourself way too hard.

There is a code of ethics that you need to make sure your customer service agents follow. There are different concerns for customer service because they deal with your customers. You need to make a concentrated effort in this area because you do not want the people who already buy from you to start buying from somebody else. Each customer you have needs to be offered the same reliable and customer service message; it?s incredibly important that this happens. Customer service employees are very special ambassadors for your company. Each time they talk to customers or potential customers, there is an opportunity available. You can really reap the positive benefits that will encourage people to stick with your business.

You could actually have a one-person customer service department if your company is small. Even if it is small, you need to be productive in regard to what you do with this department. And, as you probably know, your customer service staff is only as good as how much you try to empower them every day. If there are any laws in your particular neighborhood, or any policies and documents that you need to have, make sure you have them readily available. Regardless of whatever your industry may be, the daily tasks should be relevant and specific to that niche. Dealing with broader issues which are more general is something that you will have to take into consideration. If you want to simplify things, your customer service staff can help you get there. So be sure to return the favor and support them as much as possible.

Accomplishing www.satellitedirectreviewsx.net can be be extremely problematic considering that there is not a lot advice available.

The way that you interact with your existing customers and potential customers is through the customer service department that works. One reason for that is many businesses only post contact information for them. The information that will tell them how to contact this department should be posted. The business you are in should stay clear of scams and other devious business models that could potentially harm your employees and business too. It is imperative that your customer service team be advised of anything new making the rounds. And, beware of businesses trying to get a toehold into yours. Most of these are just scams. So it is imperative that your employees learn to recognize the signs of possible intent to harm your company.

Maybe you are already implementing some of these tips for your own business. That?s all right because you never know when you will stumble across something you don?t know. Even knowing about them is going to help you start thinking about the things you need to think about. You can do so much more when you put your mind to it.

Not surprisingly this url is truly the best source of information regarding this.

Comfacts Social Media Registry Service Makes its Debut Online ...

NEW YORK, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ --? New2u Inc. announced today the launch of its new directory service, Social Media Registry, under the name of Comfacts. ?Comfacts is designed to help companies list and showcase their official social media profiles and corporate information. It provides a one-stop solution for users to find company-owned social media accounts.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120518/CG10333)

Comfacts Social Media Registry website:? http://comfacts.com

Companies around the world increasingly face the challenge of selecting the most appropriate and effective social media platforms to communicate with customers. They also need to be aware of false social media accounts and profiles by impersonators. ?While capitalizing on social media proliferation, companies must efficiently manage their online profiles and information. ?New2u Inc. believes that Comfacts addresses these business needs by becoming the ideal destination for managing companies' social media presence.??

What is Comfacts?

Comfacts Social Media Registry is a user-generated directory of company-owned social media accounts. Anyone in the general public as well as company representatives and employees can create a Comfacts account to update links to corporate social media accounts.

Comfacts was coined to combine the words "facts" and "comfort." ?News2u has created Comfacts Social Media Registry to offer a new kind of user generated content in social media in an environment where both general users and companies comfortably collaborate. ?Through combining what companies want to deliver with participation of internet users, Comfacts is designed to serve as a new communication venue.??????

How does it work?

From its outset, Comfacts has had social media account lists for more than 2,000 companies. ?These lists await corporate managers of those companies to sign in, verify and approve the accounts. ?Approved accounts display an approval seal icon.

In the meantime, any visitors to Comfacts can register and add the links of social media accounts of any company in the Comfacts Social Media Registry. ?If a particular social media account is not listed, then the user may add the account. ?But once companies verify and approve the list of accounts, users can no longer add accounts to the list without companies' approval.

What are the benefits?

  1. General Users and Press (bloggers, journalists, and media): easily find company-owned social media accounts in one location
  2. Corporate Users: effectively manage official listing of social media accounts

Comfacts will continue to evolve to better serve businesses' internet-based PR & Marketing needs.????

priceplunge - Home - Six dastardly delicious drink and dessert ...

We know it?s still May, but it?s never too early to start testing new recipes for summertime food and drinks (especially when you get lucky with one of those extra warm days). We?ve put together a list of our favorite recipes so far, and we?re drooling just thinking about them!

1.?LoopHole Martini (featuring the legendary Fruit Loops vodka): When we first heard of Fruit Loops drink, we didn?t know how to react, having not eaten Fruit Loops cereal since we were kids. But this drink has us convinced it could be wunderbar: (via Intoxicology)

Needs:

-?????? Parts Milk

-?????? 1 Part Loopy Vodka

-?????? 1 part Frangelico

-?????? Fruit Loops cereal

2. Moscow Mule (we recommend adding the mint leaves!): Traditionally a Moscow Mule is drank with a copper cup, as the drink became popular on the west coast in the 1940s and is still enjoyed to this day by those appreciating its fresh taste. (via Webtender)

Needs:

-????????? 1-2 shots vodka

-????????? ginger beer (to taste)

-????????? a dab of honey

-????????? mint leaves (optional)

3. The Musketeers Poptail (we apologize if this caused a sudden craving for any assortment of chocolates): Technically this recipe was for a Halloween party, but the cool refreshing flavor of a popsicle version of a Three Musketeers bar had us excited. (via Endless Simmer)

Needs:

-????????? 8 oz. of cream

-????????? 2 oz melted chocolate + 3 oz. chocolate for drizzling

-????????? 2 oz chocolate liqueur

-????????? ? oz Kahlua

-????????? popsicle molds (Dixie Cups work)

Using the Popsicle molds, drizzle the melted chocolate into the bottom of each space. Put them in the freezer for 10 minutes or until frozen. Place the cream, 3 oz chocolate liquer, and Kahlua into a shaker, mixing all of the ingredients together. After mixing the liquids, pour into the Dixie Cups and freeze for about an hour. Then, well, you know what to do.

4. Blood Orange Margarita (blood oranges are in season!): These Blood Orange ritas are no ordinary margarita. In fact, they are so fresh and delicious looking, we might have to permanently replace this rita with our daily juice intake (kidding).

Needs:

-????????? 3 oz. fresh blood oranges

-????????? 2 oz. Tequila

-????????? 1 oz. Triple Sec

-????????? splash of agave nectar syrup (optional)

On the rim of your glass, coat the edge with a blood orange slice. Then, add salt (if you like). Mix together all the ingredients with ice, and then strain into your glass and enjoy!

5. Ice Cream with Honey-Poached Apricots (delicious and nutritious!) When we saw these we immediately were relieved there was no excessive carbs or anything to worry about, just a healthy treat that?s easy to whip together. (via Real Simple)

Needs:

-????????? Apricots

-????????? honey (optional)

-????????? vanilla ice cream

-????????? coconut

Take a scoop (or two!) of vanilla ice cream and top with toasted coconut and apricots, then add honey of you?d like. We?re tempted to even try this for breakfast. Either way, the light taste should make for a yummy treat that?s not too high in calories.

Trusts and LLCs in estate planning, P.2 | Alpharetta Probate ...

In our last post, we began speaking on how trusts and LLCs can be used for real estate in planning one's estate. The topic is important, as failing to protect one's real estate from lawsuits and probate after one's death can create extra troubles and costs. These can be avoided by prudent use of a trust or LLC.

We have already spoken about LLCs and Qualified Personal Residence Trusts (QPRTs). Each of these estate planning tools have their benefits and special considerations. Limited Liability Companies can be particular beneficial for those with income producing property. QPRTs can allow for tax savings.

Another tool to use in estate planning, especially for those who don't want to opt for a QPRT, are simple revocable trusts. These are quite flexible, do not require the permission of beneficiaries to change, and offer benefits for those with property in multiple states who want to avoid probate in all of those states. Each revocable trust is tailored to each family's situation. Again, the duration and structure is very flexible.

Before using any of these strategies, one should ensure that doing so fits within one's overall estate plan. A qualified estate planning attorney should be consulted in setting up any trusts or entities. Attempting to do so on one's own is risky, as laws are constantly changing and one may not be able to see all the necessary consequences of one's own financial and family situation.

That said, many people could benefit from using one or all of these tools.

12-year-old inspires his family to lose weight | Health and Fitness

Tired of being bullied at school, Marshall Reid decided to do something about his ballooning weight, so he inspired his family to make a commitment to healthier living. Now 36 pounds lighter, Marshall and his mother, Alexandra, chat about their new book, ?Portion Size Me: A Kid-Driven Plan to a Healthier Family,? which outlines the Reid family?s journey to fitness.

Ten-year-old Marshall Reid was tired of being bulled about his weight. He was tired of not being able to keep up with the other kids at recess and of having to constantly pull his shirts down to keep his stomach covered.

?One of my classmates actually told me, ?You know, you don?t look very good. You?re fat,?? Reid told TODAY.

But with the Reid family eating out most nights, it was impossible for the frustrated tween to do much about his weight.

Then Marshall saw the documentary, ?Supersize Me,? and he got an idea: Maybe he could do the opposite of what he saw in the movie and eat healthy for 30 days. However, he knew that wouldn?t work without his family?s help.

Marshall went to his mom, Alexandra, and told her things had to change. ?I?m done,? he told her. ?I?m not doing this anymore. I?m not putting up with this. I?m going to change myself.?

The conversation hit Alexandra Reid hard.

?I knew it came from his heart,? Alexandra told TODAY?S Ann Curry. ?It was a sad moment for me because I knew he was hurting and any mother doesn?t want their child hurting.

?I felt like somebody had thrown a brick at me because the amount of parental responsibility that all of a sudden came washing down on me was alarming,? she told TODAY. ??

Alexandra?s turnaround was stunningly quick.

?It really didn?t take much convincing,? Marshall told TODAY?s Ann Curry. ?My mom jumped right aboard. She?s been a really big help. Everybody?s just been so happy to join along and help me. And once I brought it to their attention, I think they noticed, ?Wow, we do have this problem.??

It?s not only the Reid?s problem. An estimated one-third of children ages 2 to 19 are obese or overweight, according to U.S. government statistics. A recent report from the influential Institute of Medicine said fighting America?s weight problem, especially among kids, will require big changes at all levels of society.

?For Marshall and Alexandra, the change started with a project they named ?Portion Size Me.? They made a commitment to eat healthier and to exercise more for the next 31 days. They used YouTube to share their progress with Marshall?s dad, an Army lieutenant colonel stationed in Iraq, making videos of the family cooking and eating healthy.

The project paid off. In total, the family has dropped over 70 pounds, 36 of those came from Marshall himself.

?I had a kid come up to me in the hall, and the first thing he says to me is ?Wow, you look a lot better,?? Marshall told TODAY. ?And I?m like, ?Thanks, Dude,??

The Reids were so happy with their results they decided to share their project with the rest of the world in a book called, ?Portion Size Me: A Kid Driven Plan to a Healthier Family.?

Marshall?s dad wasn?t surprised that his son took the lead in getting his family healthier.

?You know, he?s always been a very good communicator,? Dan Reid told Ann Curry. ?He?s very thoughtful about everything that he does. He looked at where he wanted to be and what he was doing and decided what he wanted out of it.?

HP teases new Envy all-in-one printer, glass and metal dotted all over (video)

Image

We all love teasers, so it's rather swell that HP decided to tease its next Envy-branded all-in-one printer at the Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai -- almost two years after introducing the Envy 100. As you can see in the above slide and the extremely brief video teaser after the break, this time round the design will feature a glass control panel, as well as a metal scan bar and a metal hinge under the scanner's see-through lid. Pretty hot, we'd say, and looking back at the Envy 14 Spectre which shares similar elements, this certainly sets a good example of how the new Printing and Personal Systems Group is already bringing a better design consistency across what used to be two different groups. For now, stay tuned for more info.

Isis bolsters its mobile wallet with American Express cards

The carrier-backed Isis mobile payment service added a batch of new financial partners earlier this year, and it's now back with another fairly big addition. The venture announced today that it has brought American Express' various credit card offerings into the fold (including the company's own mobile-linked Serve cards), which will let users of those cards load them into the Isis app and make payments with their NFC-equipped smartphone -- when the service begins its rollout this summer, that is. As you may recall, American Express itself had already signed on as an Isis partner last year, but this is the first time that the company has committed to tying its cards to the platform -- which is a rather important little detail.

Scientists find new pieces of hearing puzzle

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Researchers funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have gained important new insights into how our sense of hearing works. Their findings promise new avenues for scientists to understand what goes wrong when people experience deafness. Their findings are published in Royal Society Open Biology, a new open access journal.

The team was led by Prof John Wood of UCL (University College London). Professor Wood explains: "As many people will already know, our ears are filled with tiny hair cells that move in response to the pressure of a sound wave. But exactly what happens within cells to turn that movement into an electrical signal that our brains' can interpret as sound has been puzzling scientists for decades. Our findings have given us some new insights into the puzzle."

The UCL team found that when mice lack two proteins, called TRPC3 and TRPC6, they experience about an 80% drop in their ability to detect high frequency sounds. Intriguingly, the loss of these two proteins also makes the mice slightly less sensitive to light touch sensations. When the mice that lack these proteins are brushed lightly, a third of the nerve cells which would normally fire remain inactive. This finding suggests an important link between how our bodies sense touch and sound.

Only when both TRPC3 and TRPC6 were absent was the mice's hearing and sense of touch impaired; the loss of each protein on its own had no behavioural effect on the mice. This suggests that the proteins are only parts of a more complex mechanism used in detecting sound and touch.

Professor Wood continues: "We are still a long way from a complete understanding of touch and hearing but this is a really exciting lead. Our next step is to find out what other proteins are involved in this mechanism and how they all interact. Hopefully then, once we know how the mechanism works in people who can hear, we can understand what goes wrong in people who can't."

The two proteins, TRPC3 and TRPC6, seem to be able to make a pressure-sensitive ion channel in some cells but not others. In response to tiny pressures, this channel would allow the flow of electrical signals but seems to require some, as yet uncharacterised, additional factor. This research adds to our knowledge of the potential components required for sound transduction in hair cells and provides us with molecular tools to find other interacting proteins that may play a crucial role in hearing.

Professor Wood received the funding to do this work as part of a Longer and Larger award (LoLa) from BBSRC. These provide leading research teams with the time and resources to tackle major scientific questions.

Professor Douglas Kell, BBSRC Chief Executive, said, "Human biology still holds many secrets and there are big gaps in our understanding of even fundamental processes like touch, pain and hearing. As scientists invent new techniques and technologies we are able to investigate the fundamentals of human biology in exciting new ways. This is crucial because only by deepening our understanding of how our bodies work can we find new ways of helping people when things go wrong."

Unfortunatly the time has come for this scraper to come down (seemingly it may come as a shock to some that this is not provided by the BBC). I wrote this back in 2005 and have modified it a couple of times since mainly so that I could more easily consume RSS on the move. In short, I no longer use it, I find consuming live news is not actually something an RSS reader does very well and I face a constant battle against sites trying to use these feeds to monetize BBC content and failing to pay any attention to etag or last modified headers (hello palin-pedia.com et al). Greatist Wants To Build A Brand Around Non-Sucky Health Content

greatist logoWhen it comes to health and fitness, content farms rule the Internet. Try to search for something like "how to lose weight" and you'll get a long list of anonymously-written, poorly-sourced articles. So Derek Flanzarich is trying to build something better with Greatist, where he's founder and CEO. If you go the site, the differences may be too subtle to notice at first. There's lots of general how-to content, divided into three categories ? fitness, health, and happiness. But when you read the articles, there's a difference. They're not covered in ads, they seem to have a genuine editorial voice, and wonder of wonders, they even have a work cited section on the end.?This article about how to never be late again? Genuinely useful. (Though let's be honest: I'll probably be late again.)
